English 18th Century Mahogany Georgian Circular Calling Card Tray (England, circa 1770)

A good quality 18th century George III period mahogany
circular calling card tray retaining exceptional color and
patina with elegant wavy gallery

(Popular during the 18th century Calling Card Tray's as the name
suggests were designed for the collection of a visiting guests calling
card by the butler of the house who would then carry the tray through
to the living quarters where the master of the house would decide when
and where to receive his guests, if at all, after studying their calling card.
This is a good example with an elegant original gallery and it retains
a lovely colour and patina. There is a slight warp to the piece which of
course very much adds to the character of the piece and helps to show
it's 200 plus year history. Imagine the stories that this beautiful item could
tell and the many scenes it must have witnessed over the years.)
